I have too many to list

I need something to work with.. a small demo application would do wonders as for the hud definately got ideas and suggestions ill put some in to files and compile them for ya. ;)

We are currently preparing our alpha version for a internal team release, sorry just nothing for the public yet. However i hope you are still want to share your ideas :)

The very first thing that the public will turn away from is lack of realism. I have been testing games for about 8 years, i know or have a superb understanding of the developement process.  The ideas of others will make your game noticed. if you over look simple suggestions the results will remarkable. At the same time dont make an opinion a regrettable choice.

Realism is one thing, but i think that fun is the most important.

You wont have to worry about the fun part thats a given considering you going with the mech route. its rare to see a mech game now, so a little melee combat and long range combat will make it all the more exiting.

Yes. fun is the most important thing to get. besides. this is a mech game. nothing too realistic about that lol i say keep the fun factor high.

I think that most of the realism will be based on the tactics and gameplay within the missions. The rest of the game will be fun to play with Elta behind the wheel

Well, the first thing I look at in a lot of games is the damage system. Am I going to be able to take a heavy rifle and pick off opponents with two or three good shots? Or am I going to run in, firing Beam of Doom after Beam of Doom, each world-crushing coherent beam of light barely alerting the enemy to my presence?

Those are both perhaps a bit extreme, but important to understand. Find out what your audience prefers. Do you want everyone piloting Zakus or Gundams?

If you want to have all weapons relatively equal in power, consider the way COD 4 does things: Each bullet is potentially deadly, so the real reason differences in guns is how they fire. Sniper rifles fire relatively slowly and can be hard to aim, so make the first shot count. Assault rifles and SMGs have similar fire-rates, but their mobility and distance accuracy differ.


If you want to go to extremes, here are a few thoughts. Rifles, as in the Armored Core series are often the baseline for weapon design. From there, you can lower the damage and up the RoF, do the reverse, or similar stat changes.

If you do that, consider taking one or two weapons to the ultimate extreme:

-A Sniper Rifle that takes five seconds or longer to deploy, but is deadly with a decent torso shot.

-A Beam Cannon that must charge before unleashing a devastating swath of destruction.

-A single-shot grenade pistol that can be carried as back-up and packs a surprising punch.

Anyway, those are my ramblings : D

You mentioned some good points.
But in our game we have also a difference in mech stats. Like heavy mechs, that are slow but heavy armored and Light Mechs that are faster, at the price of a lower armor. That also messes with the damage system.

There are a lot of variable things we can tweak.
One example is the weight of the weapon. It makes the mech heavier and thus slower. So it has a big impact. Not only on the damage you can give but also on your movement speed.
 
I\'m trying to get a good overview of all the aspects with a spreadsheet in excel, but the real results will be measured in the testing sessions.
The testing sessions to balance this will be long... and fun :)

Feel free to draw some sketches, if they are great, we will defiantly find a way to get them into the game. :)
Same for mech designs, if you have a cool design you want to submit your free to go. Just one note about the mech designs , they may not be copyrighted. We can\'t add Zakus, Gundams, Variable Fighters, AC\'s or battle tech to our game for obvious reasons.

I\'ll probably have some time in my Animation class at school to try my hand at modeling again.

have i been out of the loop or what?  always open to suggestions just as said. the process will be long due to the fact that all the work is volunteer, and in some cases we will get points and ideas that make ours look bad. but fear not that we will have a great game in the end.
